The following are a sample of some of the basic questions that people ask concerning a crisis. We have supplied the answers from our perspective:

WHAT IS A CRISIS?
A crisis is an event or series of events that could damage a company, organisation or individual's brand, reputation and threaten their survival, day-to-day operations and financial well being. In addition, it will also negatively affect the perception of the company or organisation's brand, products, goods, services and profile of key employees.

Crises usually offer a very small amount of time in which a response can be made. Typically, the crisis is:

  • Unwelcome
  • Unplanned for and unanticipated
  • Occurs within a restricted time, and
  • Threatens the existence of a company
         organisation or individual
  • WHY DOES A COMPANY NEED CRISIS MANAGEMENT?
A company with a crisis management strategy in place demonstrates an accountable organisation with good corporate governance and responsible risk management firmly in its sights. It also shows that the business and social welfare of other companies, organisations and individuals, both in and outside of a company matter. The necessary precautions must be taken by a company to prevent the unthinkable from happening.

ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CRISES?
There is a general perception that there is one type of crisis, this is not true. The Crisis Communications Consultancy identifies at least four different types of crises. We understand the characteristics of each and are able to provide the necessary consultation to help our clients deal effectively with them.
